This weekend I visited The Dali Museum and checked out their newest exhibits with my sweet friend, Val. The Dali Museum is one of my favorite places in St. Pete, and it is a must do when visiting our charming city by the sea. Read on for more details and photos of this beautiful place, but first how amazing is this dress?! I got more compliments yesterday than I have since my wedding day! Ha! This darling dress is super comfy and perfect for summer. Did I mention that it is less than $30? Score! Now let’s get down to arts & culture…
Did you know that St. Pete’s beautiful Dali museum houses the largest collection of Salvador Dali’s works outside of Europe? Located on the charming downtown St. Petersburg waterfront, the building alone is an architectural marvel sitting beside the ocean. There are lovely and quirky tributes to Dali everywhere you look. Inside, his entertaining collection boasts 96 oil paintings, over 100 watercolors and drawings, and thousands of graphics, photographs, and sculptures. It is quite the experience, and one I highly recommend if you are an art fan. In addition admiring to his beautiful masterworks, I also enjoyed the gallery of personal photographs documenting the adventurous love story of Dali and his wife Gala (isn’t that a fun name?). If you work up an appetite while exploring, they also have a great little deli with a lovely view of the water and overlooking the giant Mustache sculpture.
In addition to the striking works of Dali, they are currently showing a new exhibit on Eduardo Chillida. It presents more than 60 Chillida works including 16 sculptures, a large-scale wall mural, numerous drawings and ‘gravitations,’ the artist’s unique approach to paper collage. Be sure to venture outside to the Dali Wish Tree and tie your wristband on the tree before you leave!
